Clicking my own Google Ads

Occasionally they're interesting. Today I saw an ad for Muslim Girl Magazine, "The new magazine especially for teenage Muslim girls!". The cover sports a lovely green-eyed girl with a red hijab, in the style of an American fashion magazine.

Perhaps comparable to the Christian teen mag Realiteen, which claims to fill a crater-sized void in the exploding Christian literature market:

This magazine is designed to be 'real' enough that they don't write it off as cheesy or Bible-thumping, yet biblically sound enough to begin bringing a biblical worldview to these girls' lives - in everything from their sexual behavior to their personal esteem based in Christ.

Muslim Girl says:

This is the magazine that strives to be your life guide to being a teenage Muslim girl, your social and moral compass...It's the magazine that represents you and your values; that gives you a forum for discussing your issues; that tells your stories

My first question (betraying my cynicism): who are the financial backers? WHOIS info shows a Canadian media company, but that doesn't say much.

Anyone know of any other Muslim-themed glossy mags? I imagine there must be one in the UK.

dear e,

i do find it funny that the design on the bag "muslim girl magazine" offers as first prize in their "best story idea competition" looks like ... stars of david. should we tell them?

Geeky sidebar:

Oddly enough ( to me, anyway - I didn't know this until fairly recently ) "Star of David"-style hexagrams were apparently pretty common in Islamic contexts. Including in state flags as far apart as Turkey and Morocco. As with Karaman and Candar below:

have you received a check from Google yet? i know several people (IRL even!) who were just about to the google-check threshold when google suddenly and mysteriously shut down their accounts. my guess was they clicked on their own sidebar ads too frequently.

as for the muslim girl's magazine, hohum. i'm waiting for the muslim porn mag.

I rarely click on the sidebar ads, unless something catches my eye. Payments are on hold until my real self is mailed a PIN number.

Which reminds me, should check the mailbox.

klaus: "watch as they remove their niqabs! what only went on behind closed doors is now yours to see!"

i think we may have hit upon a real niche market.

Haven't you googled "sexy arab" yet? Burka porn is already out there.

Of course, a lot of the women seem to be indian, but I expect the audience isn't going to nitpick.

one dark skinned girl is as good as the next i suppose. (especially if covered)

it could be an 'Aqoul brand of porn. Quality assurance. Since sex is a specialty.

"clicking my own Google ads"

Wait a minute, isn't that the new street term for "w(h)anking"?
