Reading about Genocide
To be precise, Gourevitch's ghoulishly titled book on Rwanda: We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will be Killed With Our Families. I wanted to jot down a humorous (well, darkly humorous) comment made to the journalist by an American military intelligence officer in a Kigali bar.
Oddly, it reminds me of L's buddy in Baghdad who observed (in reference to US inability to gather intel or maintain local alliances in Iraq): "You ain't no kinda pimp if your own whores don't want to be seen with you."
Crude but insightful.

Brunch and Books
In accordance with tradition, Kitten and I usually have brunch together every Sunday (well, perhaps a meal at 2pm shouldn't be called brunch, but that's what we call it). Today was somewhat different as her ex was in town for a week and she invited him along. Ostensible reason was to see me (I was friends with him long before knowing her), but I imagine she was looking forward to it as well. Since her ex and mine are also friends, I asked him to join us for an "ex double date".
All in all, we spent an enjoyable afternoon catching up on things while deftly avoiding certain topics. A bit weird, given the fact that we had all gone on real double dates before, but the boys were charming and helped us carry groceries home afterward.

Gen Y and the Workforce
Eva sent me an article that discussed Gen Y and transforming the US workforce. While there are some acknowledged stereotypes and stupid generalizations, on the whole I found the observations thought-provoking (mainly because I'm young enough to be counted among these so-called Millenials and have on occasion noticed inter-generational issues in the workplace).
The rest of the article is unfortunately rather long and not terribly interesting, so I am pasting a few choice passages below the fold.

Catching up on my reading
I noticed this in mrputter's roadtrip recap:
I have in mind a certain personage; Turkish, preferably. Besuited is an absolute must. Able to converse with lucidity and comfort about world affairs and foreign policy. Oh, and mustn't be afraid of a little HTML, &c. If this describes you or a person you know, then please contact me forthwith. For do I have a deal for you!
An excellent summary of an extended conversation I had recently with mrputter, frandroid, dubaiwalla and a girl who apparently doesn't have an internet identity (how is this possible?). We met for dinner a few weeks back because dubaiwalla was in town and for some reason (likely related to vodka martinis), I decided to elaborate on my various fetishes regarding men.

Bloody RSS
I really hate it when good blogs have shitty RSS outputs. It's not hard to push out well-formed feeds, people! It's not as if you have to peck out the XML yourselves!
Bastards.
Yes, I'm rebuilding the Aggregator. No, it's not fun.
Of course, comments/suggestions are welcome (from those of you who actually make use of it).

The Unlucky Shirt
On Saturday, I bought a lovely jacquard button-down shirt for work. Ice blue, tailored (well, just enough to distinguish me from the boys) and very soft to the touch. A bit on the expensive side, but I thought it was a good investment.
This morning, I wore my pretty blue shirt with a pair of fitted black pinstripe pants and black heels. Unfortunately, my subway train had a leaky ceiling panel and I didn't notice until a few brownish-black drops had splattered all over my right sleeve. After some frantic blotting in the bathroom, the spots dried to an unpleasant yellow-brown blob extending from wrist to elbow.
