Catching up on my reading
I noticed this in mrputter's roadtrip recap:
I have in mind a certain personage; Turkish, preferably. Besuited is an absolute must. Able to converse with lucidity and comfort about world affairs and foreign policy. Oh, and mustn't be afraid of a little HTML, &c. If this describes you or a person you know, then please contact me forthwith. For do I have a deal for you!
An excellent summary of an extended conversation I had recently with mrputter, frandroid, dubaiwalla and a girl who apparently doesn't have an internet identity (how is this possible?). We met for dinner a few weeks back because dubaiwalla was in town and for some reason (likely related to vodka martinis), I decided to elaborate on my various fetishes regarding men.
Of course, Turkishness isn't a serious prerequisite, merely nice to have.
In fact, there is an i-banker in my building who seems to fit the profile, but I'm loath to have a real conversation with him because it will most certainly ruin the mystique.
Speaking of Turks, I notice that whatshisname Mango who wrote Ataturk (tonight I'm too lazy to even bother searching for the book on Amazon) has a book out called The Turks Today, a political history of modern Turkey. The author is well-liked by my good friend (a Turkish ex-officer), although one suspects that this might be because he is something of a hagiographer where Ataturk is concerned. In any case, I have picked it up and will mention it again if it's worth reading.

"he is something of a hagiographer where Ataturk is concerned"
Don't say that in front of an Armenian.
