The Unlucky Shirt

On Saturday, I bought a lovely jacquard button-down shirt for work. Ice blue, tailored (well, just enough to distinguish me from the boys) and very soft to the touch. A bit on the expensive side, but I thought it was a good investment.

This morning, I wore my pretty blue shirt with a pair of fitted black pinstripe pants and black heels. Unfortunately, my subway train had a leaky ceiling panel and I didn't notice until a few brownish-black drops had splattered all over my right sleeve. After some frantic blotting in the bathroom, the spots dried to an unpleasant yellow-brown blob extending from wrist to elbow.

Later on in the afternoon, I was discussing something with a colleague when he started purposefully looking at the ceiling. I finished making my point and raised an eyebrow at him questioningly. He sighed and smiled, eyes still averted, and said:

"You're busting out of your shirt."

It seemed that two of my buttons had magically undone themselves, exposing rather more than what is considered appropriate for the workplace. I scowled and did them back up while my friend congratulated himself for being chivalrous enough to let me know.

So in addition to attractive yellow-brown splotches all over my right sleeve, the buttons on my new shirt have a nasty tendency to slip out of their buttonholes at the most inopportune moments.

A rather poor debut, I'd say.

in the right sittuations, the slippery button phenomena could be quite useful.

think that stain will come out?

If utility were the issue, the shirt would unbutton itself on command.

Stain came out, but the garment is unreliable. May not wear it again.
