Curious

I've been invited to a "Pimps and Hos" Hallowe'en party this weekend.

Is that like the Tarts and Vicars party in Bridget Jones?

It sounds a bit too debauched for my tastes.

It's kind of like Tarts and Vicars, except with a little extra misogyny splashed on for flavour.

E -- Sounds interesting. Which one will you go as?

Better yet, go to the P & H party as a vicar.

at least it's not porn stars and handymen.

is Kitten going to the party? you could be her pimp or vice versa. or you could take the word pimp to mean a more lounsbury-esque pimping of some sort of asset, party dogma, or other such non-sexual thing. better yet, go dressed up as Enron and take a friend dressed up as an oil pipeline.

Kitten is going.

General consensus is that I should go as a pimp, which means I need a pink/purple fur coat, platforms, a fedora and a bikini top of some sort. And of course a pimp cane.

Strangely, this getup doesn't appeal to me.

Re: doing something clever like going as a vicar or a pimped asset/ideology, I doubt this would be appreciated (or understood) by the other partygoers.

May try to wiggle out of this one.

E: since when have you cared about what people think? Kitten is rubbing off on you.

why not go as a couple? you can be the investment banker and Kitten can be your asset portfolio. and who the hell cares if no one else gets it? the two of you will be so pissed by the end of the evening that it won't matter what other people think!

if you go with the traditional pimp getup, please do take a photo and post it. we need documentary evidence!

Or you could go for the getup that a friend and I used at a sci-fi convention in college (it's the only one I've ever been to, I swear, and we didn't stay long!). We felt odd being among the few people with no costumes, so he rummaged around in the trunk of his car until he found - TA-DA! - a spare straitjacket (no, I don't know why he had a straitjacket in his trunk). So he tied me up in it, put on a trench coat and a fedora, and led me back into the hotel by a rope tied around my waist.

Let me tell you, there are very few more effective ways to get the attention of a bunch of hormonal and romantic-attention-deprived postadolescent misfit guys than being a 19-year-old girl tied up in a straitjacket. And most of them involve showing a lot more skin.

Wear something hellishly slutty then post it online. Cover your face with a niqab to preserve anonymity or something.

Regarding the straitjacket tale, I'm not sure which of the two paragraphs is the more disturbing.

As to the OP reference to the practice in question being "too debauched", I can only be amused.

Prudishness is just as funny as exhibitionism in my little world. Except for my particular sort of prudishness which OBVIOUSLY makes complete sense. (Essentially contained within the form: "Why don't you want to do X?" "Because I [don't want to/am not the sort of person that does X].")

I suppose posting a slutty pic of me would spike Aqoul's traffic a bit, but it would be counterproductive in the long-term.

Prudishness isn't really the issue, I lived next to a TV station for over a year without putting up curtains. Clubbing/pub crawling with a bunch of near-strangers dressed as pimps and whores just seems...boring.

Perhaps I'm having a mini existential crisis along with my flu.

since you clearly don't want to dress up and have a bit of fun, i feel justified in pulling the conversation wowefully off topic.

who's going to see Borat's new movie?

Ah, that's more clear. I'd tend to agree. Unless the girls were exceedingly cute--then it might (in theory) be worth it to at least observe for a few minutes before heading off. If there was nothing else to do.

Honestly don't think of you as a "prude", but the "debauched" verb doesn't exactly lead one to assume "boring". Well, usually.
